Insomnia
Have you ever been in a situation where you would wake up in the middle of the night and not being able to fall asleep again? Or wake up early in the morning even though you might have slept for an hour? Or feel exhausted when you wake up? Or not being able to fall asleep in the first place? If you have, then you my friend have got Insomnia.
I bet you’re wondering what is that and whatever it is I surely don’t have it. The truth is, you actually do. Insomnia is a sleep disorder that is characterized by difficulty falling asleep and/or staying asleep. The most known symptoms that patients with insomnia have are the ones I’ve mentioned earlier. So, if you possess any, then you are most likely to have it.
Before you freak out and ask how to recover from such sleep disorder, let me tell you the two main types of insomnia. 1) You have Primary Insomnia which means you indeed have sleep problems yet they do not effect your health by any mean. And 2) Secondary Insomnia, which mean you have sleep problems due to certain health issues such as Asthma, Depression, Heartburn, Arthitis, or even –God Forbids- Cancer. Some sorts of medication can also cause sleep disorder too.
Again, don’t freak out because the type of insomnia you have might stay for a short period of time, and that obviously means it isn’t highly noxious. The insomnia that happens a night or two is called an Acute Insomnia. The type of insomnia that might concern you and be a huge nightmare is the Chronic Insomnia, because it means you face sleep disorders at least 3 days a week for a month.
Still not convinced that you’re a victim of insomnia? Well, how about we talk about some of the causes then. The most known causes for insomnia are significant life stress, depression, emotional or physical discomfort, environmental factors like noise, light, or extreme temperature, or interferences in normal sleep schedule.
Alright then, enough talking about what this disorder actually is and lets just talk about how to get rid of this annoying issue. If you’re a patient of acute insomnia, then you’re probably better off with no treatment since it’s just a normal phase caused by probably stress or overthinking. You just need to hit back the road of a good sleep habits. However, you might actually need to undergo certain kinds of treatments if you’re a victim of Chronic Insomnia. Some treatments might include treating any health problems that are causing insomnia in the first place. Yet if this doesn’t help, then you should go through behavioral therapy that will help you change certain behaviors that are making insomnia worst. Such behaviors include relaxation exercises and sleep restriction therapy.
Now that you know all about insomnia, are you ready to fight for your nice peaceful sleep?
